Hard Day To Celebrate...But It's Not Over Yet!

I am filled with mixed emotions as I continue on through this day.  My heart is heavy for the very reason that Christ suffered a brutal death for the cause of my sin.  He endured such heartache in the separation from the Father on account of His love for me...

It seems almost impossible to celebrate such a day...

BUT, I know the rest of the story!!!

This morning I shared the story of our Beloved Savior being nailed to the cross with Madie and there was  a quietness  that came over her for several minutes.  I explained to her how Jesus was hit, punched, spat upon, pushed, and hurt very bad.  I told her how He had to carry that big, heavy cross up a big hill and how the mean soldiers nailed his hands and his feet to the cross and gave him very painful boo boos.  She looked at me with a puzzled look on her face and asked a question that brought tears to my eyes as I reflected on the answer, "why mommy?"

I had the awesome privilege of explaining Christ's love for us to her.  I explained to her that God loves us so much, but can't look at us because of sin (the bad things that we do).  I explained to her how Holy and perfect God is and how we are dirty and rotten.  I explained that Jesus died for us so that we wouldn't get in trouble with God if we would trust in Jesus and repent of our sins (try to stop disobeying) because Jesus' blood washed away all of our dirty rottenness so that God could look at us.  I then showed her the tomb and told her that's where they laid Jesus' body...but it didn't stay there long...on the third day, Jesus came out of that tomb ALIVE!!!  The look on her face was PRECIOUS! We both got excited and chills ran up and down my spine to watch her amazement of the Greatest EVENT ever to occur.

I know she still doesn't know the whole story, but let's face it she's only three and she knows the BEST part!  I look forward to seeing her and Hannah learn, understand, and become transformed by this story!

Here are some of the activities we did this week to learn about Easter and share with others.

Madie making "He is Risen" cards to send out to a few people

The day we learned about God's love for us

She made up her own song to sing to Jesus

Singing her song, "I Love Jesus"

Mixing up the ingredients to make our "tomb"

Little sister got in on the action!

They loved this part!

Ready to go in the oven...

We put Jesus in the tomb when it came out of the oven...keep watching for more pictures on Sunday...we'll see if He's still there!

My guess is...HE WON'T BE!
