Making Easter ALL about the CROSS!

In a culture that thrives off of any opportunity to make a buck, making the priority of a celebration such as Easter all about Jesus is so very difficult.  I desire for my children to know nothing of Easter, but the cross, it is the very reason we as Christians have hope!

As the girls and I were walking through the mall this past Saturday as an escape from the four walls of our home, we came across this very beautiful backdrop and staging for the iconic figure of the Easter season, the Easter Bunny (to Madie: Mr. Bunny).  Both of my girls were mesmerized...they were in awe of this beautiful bunny.  This encounter was a bit conflicting for me, I had thousands of thoughts battling each other in my mind as the girls sat staring at him.  I concluded it that it was time to go home and talk about some important things with my two littles.

Madie had several questions about who the bunny was and why he was there, but never once did she really seem disappointed not to be able to participate in visiting with him.  I carefully explained to her the reason that we celebrate Easter and that sometimes there are distractions to keep us from being able to devote our celebrations completely to Jesus.  She was pretty content with my explanation and has asked some really good questions that have enabled me to share just a bit more with her.

I decided that in order to keep the Cross the focal point of our celebration we would add on a few things to our traditions from last year, so this week we are making a "Holy Week" calendar.  We are discussing the importance of each day leading up to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.  It's amazing how much she still remembers from last year and how much more she understands this year.  Hannah has jumped right in with us on these discussions and seems to be catching bits and pieces as well.

I pray that as these Truths are presented to them year in and year out, it will begin to resonate and penetrate their hearts to the truly remarkable celebration we as believers get to take part in!  I love to see the tiny nuggets they grasp and pray that God continues to draw their hearts.

This truly is my very favorite time of the year, it feels like a refreshing renewal and reminder to my adoption story...The story of how I once was once an orphan and because of the great love of the Father, he payed a terribly high cost with the death of His Son so that I might be made a member of His family and an heir with Christ.  If that's not something to celebrate, I can't think of anything worth celebrating!

I pray that many orphans will be made sons and daughters of the Most High this week as THE BEST STORY EVER TOLD is proclaimed by the lips of HIS saints this week!

Palm Sunday

Jesus turns over the tables of merchants in the temple

Jesus teaches in the temple...my favorite part of this passage is the last verse that says, "the people were hanging on His every word..."

These pictures were from last week when we made our "Prayer Flower Pot" a pot that holds flowers with people's names on that the girls pray for each day.

I love to watch them do things together...melts this momma's heart!!!

AND HERE ARE A FEW SILLIES...

Hannah decked out in her Mrs. Potato Head earrings...that girl will let her sissy talk her into anything :)

Creepy I know, but she loves to make silly faces!
