Oh letter "D" you are "delicious"!!! Love Madie!

We got adventurous this week with the letter "D" and decided to try something fun and new.  Thanks to "Pintrest" I found a simple recipe for making "homemade" doughnuts.  I have to say they were not too shabby...I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking...

We sometimes get a treat when we work really hard.

Here's a little exercise we did using our letters to identify what sound went with that animal word.

Here's where learning our letters gets really fun!!!

Cutting the center out to make a doughnut...

Putting everything she's got into it!!!

A true cook in the making folks.

I didn't realize how fast they would cook, so they got a bit too brown...didn't affect the taste though!

Proud of our creations

"Can I eat it now?"

"D" is for yummy in my tummy!!!

She didn't come up for air until it was gone!

A bit messy...

Letter "D" also stands for "dirty from eating doughnuts!"
No kidding, the bottom of the tub was filled with cinnamon and sugar after she got out!

We had a blast making the doughnuts!!!  If your interested here's the recipe...

Ingredients
  • 1 ten count can Texas style doughnuts (or your preference, just not flaky layers)
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 stick margarine, melted
  • Vegetable Oil For Frying
Instructions
  1. Pour oil into skillet to the depth of a little less than 1/2 an inch and heat on medium to medium high for about five minutes. In a bowl, melt margarine. In a separate bowl, combine cinnamon and sugar.
  2. Using a plastic bottle cap, cut the center out of each biscuit. Drop dough into hot oil, watching carefully and turning when golden. Once doughnuts are golden on both sides, remove to paper towel lined plate. Repeat until all dough is cooked, including doughnut holes.
  3. Dip both sides of each doughnut into melted margarine, then press both sides into cinnamon sugar mixture. Serve warm.
