It's been a while since I've had time to sit down at the computer and actually write, so I have a bit of catching up to do so bare with me as I give a recap of the last month of events...
The Joys of Children and New York City to Celebrate 5 years!
My and my honey had the ultimate five day getaway to NYC kid-free! We had such a spectacular time...however the events that led up to the trip, made it even more of a most needed break away from things.
Tuesday night we were supposed to go stay with my mom and dad in Auburn so that we wouldn't have as far of a drive to the Atlanta airport the next morning. Tuesday morning I got up and got my shower and was trying to finish getting stuff together for the girls. Madie had already gotten up (she's quite the early riser) and was playing in the living room while I was in the bathroom drying my hair. Madie came in the room and said "Mommy, look I have medicine on my lips..." I said "show me what you put on your lips." I followed her into the kitchen where she had apparently been playing and lead me straight to the opened, almost empty bottle of children's tylenol I had sat out on the counter the night before to pack in their stuff. I panicked and ran to tell Stephen (who was in the shower at the time) who tried to calm me down but to no avail. I called the Pediatrician before hours service and spoke with a nurse who spoke with the doctor and eventually put me in touch with Poison Control. The doctor had gotten all the information on her age, weight, how much I thought she consumed, etc. He told me that she was probably going to be fine without any medical attention but was going to have Poison Control give me a call anyway. While waiting on them to call I was fixing Madie's breakfast still very upset (she was playing and singing while all of this had been going on...completely unaware of the potential harm she had just caused herself) as I turned to grab a spoon out of the drawer, I stepped in a puddle of something slimy and sticky, also in the drawer I was getting the spoon from, there were three medicine cups sticky from what looked to be the same substance. Oh my dear sweet Madie...I still have no idea what she had been trying to do, but there are no words that can describe the relief and anger that rushed through my body with my precious, darling, angel, mischievous, curious three year old. We had a long discussion of which her daddy had to do most of the talking because I was ready to string her up by the holes in her nose! Needless to say, not the perfect start to my day.
On with it now...
Anyways, after the events of the day, I was ready to board a plane and leave it all behind for a few days and that it what I or should I say "we" did. We left Wednesday morning and arrived in NYC just after lunch. After an hour and a half taxi ride to go 11 miles, we got checked into our hotel, found a quaint little chinese restaurant and was off to check out the sites. We walked until our feet felt like they were going to fall off and hopped subways until we were completely clueless of where we were. We explored, ate, shopped, relaxed, drank coffee, watched shows, and got to know each other all over again. After having kids that is something you have to do from time to time.

Christmas Traditions and Family
We had only two days to recover before all of our Christmas festivities began, so needless to say we were all very tired! The girls were recovering from being with the grandparents (and being terribly homesick) and we were trying to get the house back in order from all the unpacking we had to do before family arrived. But it was all very exciting!
Last year we started a new family tradition that has been really fun. We began a Gingerbread House building contest! We decided our family needed some excitement over the holidays so this is what we came up with. We divide into teams of two and have roughly an hour and half to construct and decorate our gingerbread house...none of this kit stuff...construction from the ground up with graham crackers and decorator's icing. At the Christmas Eve Party the next night we let everyone else judge the houses...The winners this year were My Father in law...2 years running now, and my sister in law...
I'll let the pics do the rest of the talking...
Christmas
Christmas this year was very different having a three year old and an almost one year old. The excitement Madie had for EVERYTHING was so much fun. She took in every little detail and absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. We don't do Santa with her, we count down the days until Jesus' Birthday and then we threw him a birthday party. She helped her Mimi bake and decorate a birthday cake. She was so excited and could hardly nap that day. I pray that over the years the reason for that birthday party will become more special to her because of the everlasting hope it will hopefully give her!
We stayed super busy as we celebrated with family and traveled. I have high hopes that next year we'll be able to slow down a bit more; but overall we had a fabulous Christmas!
Here are some pictures from Madie decorating Jesus' Birthday cake...she doesn't believe any birthday celebration is complete without birthday cake...
The finished product didn't exactly read "Happy Birthday Jesus" is said something like "YHATHAPPYBIRD" but you get the idea. She definitely made sure Jesus' birthday was recognized in our house this year! So thankful for her!
